In this talk we consider the general Ericksen-Leslie model for the flow of nematic luqid crystals in the iso- and nonisothermal setting. Regarding this system as a quasilinear parabolic system, we discuss recent well-posedness results for this system as well as results on the dynamics of its solution. The analytical understanding of this model is based on the development of thermodynamical consistent models and the entropy principle.
