We present a sharp, quantitative version of the linear isoperimetric inequality in complete, simply connected Riemannian manifolds subject to a negative upper curvature bound. We then discuss the role of the linear isoperimetric inequality in metric geometry and geometric group theory and several possible directions for future work related to this result.
