A year ago I spoke on Springer theory for symmetric spaces in the special case of SL(n,R). In this talk I will
discuss the general case. We start with a detailed discussion of a nearby cycle construction which plays a crucial role in the theory. This part is joint
work with Grinberg and Xue. After that I will explain how using the geometric input one obtains the Springer theory in general. This part is joint
work with Xue.
