Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences Innovation Course practical training subjects

"Mathematical Human Resource Enhancement Program (International)" of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences Innovation Course (MMSIC) has three types of practical training subjects: "Seminar Management in Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences", "International Workshops on Mathematical and Mathematical Sciences", and "Overseas Training in Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences I, II".

The following two registrations are required to take the practical training subjects.

① Registration for the subjects through KULASIS (Registration period for year-round subjects and first semester subjects is April 17 (Wed.) and 18 (Thu.))※

Registration for MMSIC (Registration period is from April 2 (Tue.) to April 18 (Thu.). Click here to learn how to register)

※If you are a graduate student not in the Graduate School of Science and want to take the practical training subjects, please register for the subjects through "Auditing Courses in Other Faculties" at KULASIS. Please note that the registration period for "Auditing Courses in Other Faculties" in the first semester is from April 2 (Tue.) to April 12 (Fri.).

Seminar Management in Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences (Graduate School of Science, intensive/year-round, 2 credits)

Students of this subject will conduct a reading seminar that deals with introductory topics in mathematics, mainly for first- and second-year undergraduate students (the presenter at the reading seminar will be an undergraduate student, and the student of this subject will serve as an instructor). The purpose of this subject is to gain educational experience and to advance students’ career in the future. In this subject, the first semester is mainly a preparatory period, including the recruitment of seminar participants for undergraduate students. The reading seminar will be held from September to December about 6 times in total (about 2 class hours per session). Please also check the syllabus below.

International Workshop on Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences (Graduate School of Science, intensive/year-round, 2 credits)

In this subject, students will prepare and manage an international workshop that will succeed the KTGU International Young Scientist Workshop, which has been implemented as a super global project, under the guidance of the instructor in charge of the class. Students will also present their own research (including poster presentations) at the international workshop. The purpose of this subject is to gain experience in managing international workshops and to advance students’ career in the future.

※To take this subject, in addition to registering for the subject through KULASIS, you will also need to submit the prescribed application form that includes the signature of your academic advisor. Please submit the prescribed application form on the PandA website of this subject by April 18 (Thu.). Please also check the syllabus below.

In 2024 academic year, the international workshop associated with this subject is scheduled for November 20 (Wed.) and November 21 (Thu.). There will be parallel sessions in four areas: representation theory, topology, operator algebra, and applied mathematics. A poster session will be also held for all areas of mathematics and mathematical sciences.

Overseas Training in Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences I (Graduate School of Science, intensive/first semester, 2 credits)

Overseas Training in Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences II (Graduate School of Science, intensive/second semester, 2 credits)

This subject is designed to encourage graduate students, majoring in the fields of mathematics and mathematical sciences, to travel abroad for a medium- to long-term (several weeks or more) overseas study plan. Subject I covers overseas travel in the first semester (April - September), and Subject II covers overseas travel in the second semester (October - January). Students who intend to travel abroad for a medium- to long-term period by taking this subject are required to submit an overseas travel plan (prescribed form) to the instructor in charge of the subject and the SGU math office at least two months prior to the scheduled overseas travel date and are also required to obtain approval from the MMSIC Steering Committee. You can submit your overseas travel plan before or after you have registered.
※Depending on the budget situation of the SGU project, partial subsidies may be available for overseas travel expenses under this subject. If you wish to receive assistance, please contact the instructor in charge of the subject or the SGU math office.
