Abstract

In this presentation we start with the famous (microscopic) model introduced by Bando in the nineties. In a first step we modify the model in order to introduce a bottleneck. This requires a drastic change in the mathematical approach of the model. We study bifurcations and we interpret the results from a macroscopic viewpoint. We are able to recover the well known lambda shaped flow-density diagrams.
In a second step we modify the model to describe different types of vehicles, i.e. heavy and light vehicles. There we start with a combined micro-macroscopic model.
Using numerical simulation we identify typical features known from real world traffic behavior.
