A polyhedral product is a space constructed from a pair of spaces in accordance with the combinatorial information of a given simplicial complex. Polyhedral products are shown to exhibit remarkable relations between many topics in homotopy theory and other areas of mathematics, and their homotopy theory is rapidly developing. This talk introduces basic topics in the homotopy theory of polyhedral products to non-experts.
