Abstract:

Unprojection is a technique that can be used to construct
Gorenstein rings in high codimension. I will introduce the
Kustin--Miller unprojection theorem and explain how it can be used to
construct a divisorial extraction from a singular curve contained in a
smooth 3-fold.
