# Twisted equivariant $K$-theory of operator algebras and topological phases of matter

Abstract:

In the theory of condensed-matter physics, twisted equivariant $K$-theory (in the sense of Freed-Moore) of the torus is known to classify the topological phases of matter. For both theoretical and computational reasons, it is useful to generalize this twisted equivariant $K$-theory to the category of $C^*$-algebras. In this talk I will introduce the foundation of the twisted equivariant $K$-theory for $C^*$-algebras and its use in the theory of topological phases.
